Vail Daily – Gypsum Creek Golf Course, Villas at Cotton Ranch team up for layout solution

Dated: February 5, 2018 GYPSUM — It's a project that could have gone a cease-and-desist route, but instead, the parties involved with the latest construction at the Gypsum Creek Golf Course took a "discuss and fix" approach to a shared problem. Said problem is almost as old as the game of golf. Since the advent of the sport, people have found they enjoy living next to rolling links. The downside of such home placement is that errant golf shots can break windows, smack siding and disturb outdoor gatherings. The elevated tee box at hole No. 8 on the Gypsum Creek course and the Villas at Cotton Ranch project now under construction is a prime example of a potential golf/residence conflict. "You sit up on the tee, and if you play golf like me, you are bearing down on the residences," said J.T. Landreth, developer and builder of the Villas at Cotton Ranch. While his 72-unit townhome project has been a part of the Cotton Ranch plan since its inception, the issue became more apparent as actual construction comme

Vail Valley Home Magazine | A Home For The Future | August 2017

Dated: August 3, 2017 Aging mountain residents plan for easier living by downsizing and choosing main-floor suites. By Kimberly Nicoletti The nation's housing market is undergoing the largest group of retirees in its history. With nearly 10,000 people retiring every day, the specific home features they demand are changing the shape of architecture. As baby boomers move into their 50s, 60s and 70s, they want to remain active and live in mountain communities such as the Vail Valley, which ranks third in the nation for life expectancy, according to research published in May's Journal of the American Medical Association. So far, the valley doesn't offer a specifically designated age 55 and over adult community, so aging residents are partially going it on their own - buying or building homes they believe will suit them and any physical limitations they may experience - or moving to communities that support their needs. FLEXIBILITY One of the main elements aging residents desire is a main-level master bedr

Study: Eagle County has third-highest life expectancy in nation

Dated: May 18, 2017 May 8, 2017 Summit County's life expectancy is the highest in the nation, according to a study published Monday ( in the Journal of the American Medical Association. In 2014, the latest year that data is available, Summit's expected longevity was 86.83 years. That narrowly edged out the neighboring ski country counties of Pitkin and Eagle, which came in at No. 2 and 3 nationwide, with life expectancies of 86.52 and 85.94, respectively. By comparison, the nation with the highest life expectancy in the world that same year, tiny Andorra in Europe's Pyrenees Mountains, came in at 84.8 years, followed by Iceland at 83.3. "Summit County has very high education, high income, high access to medical care, the people are physically active, obesity is lower than anywhere else — so you're doing it right," said Dr. Ali Mokdad, one of the study's co-authors. He is the head of U.S. research for the In

Real Estate Market “Balance”

Dated: September 14, 2016 EAGLE COUNTY — Area real estate brokers have been saying for some time now that the local market is “balanced.” But what does that really mean? A look at some of the latest data from the Vail Board of Realtors provides some insight. Here are a few factors: Days on the market In August of this year, a home that sold had spent an average of 110 days on the market. That’s an average, though. Some homes — particularly those priced at $500,000 or less, moved from listing to closing more quickly.
